Queen Elizabeth I
By: Katrina Sousounis
I (Interviewer): Good day to you! and welcome to Ye Old Blog where we hamlet you know about this beautiful era you call the golden age.
QE (Queen Elizabeth): Good day to you as well! and what an honor this is to be speaking with England’s one and only.
I: Thank You, now, shall we get started?
QE: We shall!
I: All right then,
first off, our viewers would like to know how your childhood life at Greenwich place, your parents, King Henry VII and Anne Boleyn, and your extensive education have prepared you for your reign as Queen of England.
QE: This is a very good question indeed. My father, King Henry had wanted a son, and instead got me. My father wanted to pursue having a son to succeed the throne, and so my mother was executed on May 19 1536 (against false charges I later learned) because she failed to do this for him. I lost her at such a young age. I was just 3 years old. All my life My father has had troubles with his brides, and tying the knot (getting married). My half sister, Mary’s mother, Katherine of Aragon got divorced by my father in order to try and get his son. After my mother was executed, My father re married yet again to Jane Seymour, and they had a son: Edward. Jane died in the process, and so my father married again, two more times before he settled with his last wife, Catherine Parr. Nevertheless, I was still educated, as it is popular for nobility to be. I excelled in my studies, and by the end, I was able to speak five languages fluently! Personally, I believe that my education has been a contributing factor to the success of this great country.
I: This is all very interesting indeed, and you mentioned about your troubles with your parents, specifically your father. How have his choices impacted your decisions as Queen?
QE: Well, after having Edward, my father disregarded myself and Mary as heirs to the throne because his marriage to my mother was seen as void. I thought this to be preposterous! But what could I do about it? In fact, this did not shock me, seeing that my father had wanted a son so badly. I didn't realize until later that the reason behind considering Mary and I illegitimate was to put Edward first in line for the throne. Little did he know that Edward would Inherit the throne at just nine years of Age. Ha! could you imagine? the little boy king of England? Since then, there were many incidences including the plot of Edward's Uncle, Seymour, to kidnap him, The death of Edward to illness, The Crowning of Mary as queen, and a whole lot of other twisted family history. Woe is me! But all is well now, for I have taken the throne. Because Mary had no children, I am here now, and I perceive that I am a fair and just ruler. Hmm?
I: Yes, yes you are indeed. What about your decision not to mary? will you ever have children?
QE: I am afraid at this time In England, men are considered more capable than women, and I do believe that I am as strong and willful as one may perceive a man to be. Besides, I have kept this country in good order until now, and intend to do so well into the future. I was chuffed to bits when the news of my coronation arrived, and I just don't think I am ready, nor do I need to share this responsibility with anyone else at the moment. I have been burning the candle at both ends, and been doing just fine governing this country. I would say that the good people of england see me as the best monarch of all. I mean, I do treat them fairly, and with respect. My love for the people is strong, and I don't believe there is another person out there who could do the same for the people as I.
I: I do agree with you, but who will succeed you to the throne?
QE: There is time, and it is just that, given my background, childbirth has been a difficult thing to wrap my head around. Hopefully I will figure it out…
I: I see. Well, to wrap it up, I had a few last questions. You are known, of course, throughout all of England. Not only for your rule, but for your extravagant dress! Just look at what you are wearing this moment! it is simply divine! Our listeners would like to know more about your fashion sense.
QE: Oh cor! well, perhaps you may not know that although I dress exquisitely, one of the main reasons I do it is to create an image for myself. I want my people to know, my enemies to know, and everyone to know I mean business. My sister did not do this, nor my father. And I would like to know: dost thou get a better impression of them or I? I make sure to dress in fulsome and overmany rich fabric. The ruff, is a staple of this time, and so is the square cut gown. This gown, embellished with full sleeves with ribbon, winged sleeves, and an open lace bodice is very fashionable. Only royalty such as I am able to wear velvet or crimson. I am sure to carefully choose my dress as to prepare my image for public viewing, as I wish to appear royal and dutiful.
I: Now for our last question: what do you wish to achieve during your rule as Queen?
QE: now this is a tough question, but above all, I wish for my people to love me as I love them. I hope they know that I care for their well being, and I will protect them and this country at all costs. I am committed to the preservation of English life, culture, stability, and peace amongst the citizens.
I: Thank you so much for your time, and we all hope to hear from you again soon! This has been Queen
